Young Mariners Lead Instructor

The Young Mariners Lead Instructor serves as the primary adult waterfront leader for the Young Mariners teen program, ensuring participant accountability, curriculum consistency, and meaningful mentorship.

Pay: $25 per hour, based on experience

Role Type: Seasonal, Part-time

Young Mariners Program Dates: 8 weeks, June 22–August 14, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM

Start Date: Early June, with the possibility of remote work beginning ASAP

Reports to: Seasonal Program Manager and Director of Community Impact and Development

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the adult lead on the docks during Young Mariners programming. 
  • Account for the whereabouts and safety of all teen participants. 
  • Ensure the Young Mariners curriculum is followed and adapted as needed. 
  • Facilitate a positive learning environment focused on skill-building and responsibility. 
  • Coordinate with DSC staff when Young Mariners are supporting other programs or events. 
  • Provide regular, constructive feedback to teens on performance and growth. 
  • Model professionalism, safety awareness, and leadership.

Qualifications

  • Previous sailing instructor experience. 
  • Experience working with teenagers in any setting (education, camps, coaching, mentoring). 
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Training Provided

  • Orientation to DSC boats and facilities 
  • Safety protocols and Emergency Action Plans 
  • Young Mariners curriculum and program goals
