MEMBERSHIP OVERVIEW

The DSC offers affordable memberships for sailors of all skill levels.  Annual memberships are a great way to meet a diverse and inclusive community, continuously hone and improve your seamanship, and enjoy the beauty and freedom of Baltimore's Inner Harbor and Patapsco River.  You do not need to take any sailing lessons prior to joining; however, for new sailors, taking lessons combined with sailing at regular member events is the best and quickest way to get up to speed.   Members benefit from free Wednesday and Sunday member sails, regular social events, a discount on all sailing lessons, and a 10% discount on youth summer camp!

A DSC Membership provides a great opportunity, but we expect all members to give back!  The DSC relies heavily on volunteers to carry out the mission, and we expect all members to volunteerSee all the details on volunteer expectations and opportunities here.  There are additional opportunities throughout the year to help with events, fundraising, fleet and facilities upkeep, and more!  Your volunteerism is key to the success of the DSC.

Membership Options

Click here for the current membership rates and to join.  Memberships are valid for the calendar year, and can be renewed on December 1st.

Crew Member

Crew members can join the regular Member Sails on Wednesdays and Sundays, sail on a J/22 or Sonar with a DSC Skipper, and participate in various other events throughout the year.  Crew members are also eligible to be checked out for Kayak and Hansa Access Dinghy use (email the office for more info).  No experience is necessary, but taking lessons is a great way to establish a base-line knowledge and get the most out of your membership.

Skipper Member

Skippers can take out any DSC J/22, Sonar, or Freedom, as well as the Hansa Access Dinghy and Kayak.  Skippers will need to pass an on-water checkout to demonstrate basic skills and competence before they are able to use any vessel.  In addition to the Member Sails, skippers can reserve boats for private use nearly year-round.  Details on the checkout-process here.  Skippers aged 26 and under may join at a reduced rate.

Racing and Cruising Upgrades

Members can pay an additional upgrade fee to be involved in the Racing and Cruising Education programs.  The Racing program consists of the Thursday Night Racing series on J/22s, and the Cruising Education Program includes use of the DSC's various cruising boats.  These programs may have additional volunteer expectations above and beyond regular DSC community events and fleet maintenance.  See the respective pages for more information.
