Join a Committee

Each cruising boat will be assigned a small group of managers responsible for conducting regular inspections to ensure safety and quality standards. These managers will oversee the inspection process and coordinate any necessary repairs in collaboration with the Director of Fleet and Facilities.  Join us to help maintain the high standards of our cruising fleet! 

Join the Dockmaster Committee and be the welcoming presence at each member sail! Attend a Dockmaster orientation in March, and help organize boat groups based on skill levels and goals, with a provided guide to help you get started. Sign up today to enhance your weather knowledge, meet fellow members, and create a smooth sailing experience for everyone! Dockmasters volunteer based on their individual schedules and are not required to attend every member sail.

Join the Hansa Race Team and dive into an exciting sailing season! We're seeking dedicated committee members to assist with rigging and de-rigging Hansas, dropping marks, ensure safe transition of race team members onto boats. No experience is needed—just a passion for sailing and teamwork! The committee supports the Hansa Race Team's practices, held every other weekend from April through October. Members volunteer based on their individual schedules and are not required to attend every practice.

Join the Kayak Orientation Committee to help train members on kayak usage and coordinate paddling events!  Members are expected to conduct at least one orientation or event per year, stay active in Circle for kayak-related topics, and help organize our participation in the Baltimore Floatilla each June. Most coordination is via email, with one kickoff meeting in March or April.  

Join the Novice Orientation Committee to welcome new members to the DSC and help them get started! Attend a virtual training in March, then lead one or two Sunday orientations from April to October, guiding novices and familiarizing them with our grounds and fleet. 

Join the Race Council and help coordinate Thursday Night Racing (TNR) events, from pre-season education to weekly score entry and the end-of-season party and awards! We meet once a month, with a busy season from January to March for planning, and volunteers should be active TNR racers. In 2025, we will have three open positions: Council Chair, Social Chair, and Member-at-Large. 

If you enjoy brainstorming party ideas, planning events, and setting up and breaking down socials, join the DSC Social Committee! While attendance at the socials isn't required, committee members are asked to assist with planning and promotion. The committee meets quarterly to plan these events. 

Join the Ya Gotta Regatta Committee and help plan our largest fundraiser of the year! Responsibilities include brainstorming and organizing fundraising initiatives, securing sponsorships, promoting the event, and working with other committee members to ensure everything runs smoothly. Committee members may also assist with outreach to the community, donor engagement, and helping to set and track fundraising goals. Learn more about Ya Gotta Regatta Here.
