Women on the Water (WOW!)

An all-volunteer effort to increase access to sailing for women and non-binary people.
The hottest event on the Chesapeake Bay!!
The Downtown Sailing Center seeks to create an environment of inclusion and education-it's in our mission! Sailing has been a traditionally male-dominated sport, but WOW seeks to change the landscape by being for women and by women. Develop your confidence and skills by learning from women.
There are two levels of WOW events: beginner and racing. If you are interested in learning more about sailing or getting introduced to sailing, please join as a beginner on WOW Mondays. If you have some experience but maybe want to try your hand at skippering, you should also join as a beginner. A volunteer can help you learn how to drive a boat safely. Membership is not required; non-members may simply sign up for a nominal fee.
Already checked out as a DSC skipper? Please consider signing up to volunteer. This will allow you to develop your skills while helping others!
If your skills are more advanced and you are interested in racing, we have clinics available on 3 different Saturdays throughout the year. These events are specifically to give women the confidence to join a race team either as a crew or skipper OR to practice using the spinnaker.
WOW will take place on the first and third Mondays from May-September.
Registration opens 2 weeks prior to each event.
We look forward to seeing you on the water!!
If you cannot attend, please give at least 4 days notice so we accommodate those on the extensive waitlist. If you have paid a fee, and you need to cancel, please give at least 4 four days advance notice in order to receive a refund or transfer your payment to another date. |
