Adaptive Sailing Program Manager

The Downtown Sailing Center is looking for a passionate and organized leader to oversee and expand our Adaptive Sailing Program, providing safe, inclusive sailing opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize & manage monthly adaptive sailing events (May–Sept).
  • Recruit, train & oversee volunteers and seasonal staff.
  • Safely assist participants, including using a Hoyer lift (training provided).
  • Work directly with community partners to expand program outreach.
  • Support the Hansa Race Team & maintain program equipment.
  • Assist with administrative tasks & grant reporting.

Who You Are

  • Passionate about inclusion, accessibility, and the outdoors.
  • A strong leader & communicator who thrives in a hands-on role.
  • Experience in OT/PT, adaptive recreation, program management, or sailing is a plus.
  • Comfortable working outdoors, on docks, and around boats.

Position Details

  • Seasonal, Part-Time (April–October, up to 20 hrs/week, Tues–Sat)
  • Potential for full-time, year-round employment
  • Competitive pay, commensurate with experience
  • Must be available on September 20 for the Ya Gotta Regatta

Summer Camp Sailing Instructors

The Downtown Sailing Center is looking for passionate and skilled Sailing Instructors to join our Summer 2025 Camp Team!

Camp Dates: June 23 – August 22 (plus one week of training before camp starts)

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Pay: $16 – $20 per hour, with opportunities for end-of-season bonuses and pay increases for returning staff

We’re hiring instructors for Beginner and Intermediate level programs based on your sailing expertise and instructional experience.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experienced sailors with a passion for teaching
  • Reliable team players who can commit to the full camp season and training week (exceptions considered with advance notice)
  • Enthusiastic individuals ready to create a fun and safe learning environment

Part-time Adult Sailing Instructors

The Downtown Sailing Center is looking for part-time Adult Sailing Instructors for the 2025 season (April–October). Flexible scheduling available—commit to as much or as little as you like!

Why Teach at DSC?

Flexible Work Options – Teach full-day courses, US Sailing certification classes, 3-hour experiences, private lessons, or corporate events.

Competitive Pay – $17–$25/hour, based on experience & certifications.

Diverse Opportunities – Instruct on J/22s, Sonars, or larger 30’-40’ cruising sailboats (for those with USCG licenses or US Sailing Cruising Instructor Certification).

Safety First – Uphold and teach best boating safety practices.

Requirements

  • Sailing proficiency on small keelboats (J/22s)
  • Coaching experience
  • Ability to adapt teaching to different learners
  • Passion for sailing & safety.

Preferred: Valid US Sailing Basic Keelboat Instructor Certification.

Bonus: USCG Captain’s License & experience with 30’-40’ cruising sailboats.
