Volunteer Opportunities

Not racing in the Ya Gotta Regatta but still want to be involved? There are plenty of opportunities throughout the day to volunteer both on and off the water. Whether you can pitch in for a full day, or only a couple of hours, we appreciate any help you can provide!

Volunteer opportunities exist in the following categories:

  • Race Committee & Power Boat Operation
  • Adaptive Racing
  • Dockside Event Crew

No experience? No Problem!  We need all kinds of help to pull of an event of this size and many of our volunteer positions don't require any specialized knowledge or previous experience.

Race Committee & Power Boat


J/22 Race Committee

Assist with hoisting and lowering the flags, keeping score, and dropping and hauling marks. Experience running races and racing sailboats is strongly recommended.


PHRF Race Committee

Assist the PHRF PRO in starting and scoring the PHRF Pursuit Race. Watch a dynamic pursuit race start and learn about PHRF handicap scoring.

Adaptive Race Committee

Assist the PROs in starting and scoring the Hansa or Freedom/Sonar races.  You may also work with the chase boat to help coach sailors when needed.


Chase Boat (Adaptive)

Operate the chase boat for the Hansa Dinghy or Sonar/Freedom courses. You may provide instruction/coaching to sailors as needed.

Operator MUST have BOAT US Safe Boater certificate. Power boat experience is required.

J/22 Mark Boat

Experience driving a power boat is required, and experience setting a One Design race course preferred.  

Operator MUST have BOAT US Safe Boater certificate.

Adaptive Racing


Greeter/Escort

Check in adaptive racers, provide PFDs, and escort sailors to the docks or boat. Help clean up and break down the registration table.


Hoyer Lift Operator

Assist transferring sailors from the docks to Hansa dinghies and/or Sonars.  Training on our manual Hoyer lift is required to fill this role.


Hansa Dinghy Rigger

Rig and De-rig the Hansa Access Dinghies. You may also assist in helping sailors to enter/exit the boats.


Dockside Assistance

Help cast off Sonars and Hansas and catch dock lines.  Minimal experience is needed for this position so it is great for new crew!

Sonar Coach or Crew

Sonar coaches will be coaching up to 3 participants on one of our Sonar 23 keelboats. Crew will assist in boat handling or instruction.


Hansa Sailing Buddy

You will provide assistance to a racer on the course, prior experience preferred, background check required.

Dockside Event Crew


Registration - Morning

Help set up the registration table. Check in Sailors and Volunteers as they arrive. Sell DSC merchandise as needed.

Parking Attendant

Facilitate parking, ensure only DSC participants park in the gravel lot, and direct cars to reserved accessible spots.


After Party Set Up
Help make the after party a success by volunteering to decorate and set up the party space at Little Havana.


Merch Table - After Party

Help set up a merchandise table and sell YGR and DSC merchandise at the YGR after party at Little Havana.

After Party Clean Up

After all the awards have been given out and the celebrating in done, you'll help clean up the decorations and close the party down.
