Introduction to Sailing - 12 Hr. Course

Overview

Embark on a voyage for fun! Sailing will not only take you places but it will expand your horizons!

This course is the perfect primer or refresher for most students. In addition to top-notch instruction, students receive US Sailing's Basic Keelboat Student book and a 50+ page comprehensive student packet designed specifically for our keelboat program at The DSC. Our two-day courses are listed as "12 hours" but each course runs two days, from 9AM to 5PM.

Experienced instructors teach the fundamentals of water safety, rigging a boat, wind direction, sail theory, points of sail, and even how to rescue a person if they fall overboard. Upon successful completion of this course, students will feel comfortable on a boat and have the skills to crew on a 23-foot boat with an experienced skipper.

"Intro to Sailing" 12 Hour Course, Sat & Sun. May 16 & 17

Have you always wanted to learn how to sail? Do you want to experience the joys of sailing? Want to have a great experience in the greatest city in America? What to know the difference between ropes and lines?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, Intro to Sailing is the course for you!

The course is designed to help new sailors feel comfortable on a boat and teach them the basic skills needed to competently crew on a small keelboat with an experienced skipper. An experienced instructor and up to four students (usually only three students) are on the water in a Sonar or J/22. Sonars and J/22's are keelboats which are safe (non-capsizable), comfortable and fun.

If you have sailing experience but are rusty or did not learn from professionals, we strongly recommend taking this course. "Intro to Sailing" is a prerequisite for the "Beyond Intro" course.

FULL PAYMENT IS REQUIRED TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT FOR THIS COURSE. SPACE IS LIMITED.
