On your marks, get set...
You got it! Frostbite Racing at Downtown Sailing. Wrangle up your crew or sign up solo and head up to the Liberty Room for a chalk talk before heading out on the racecourse.
Unlike member sails, each skipper will need to reserve his or her own boat. Skippers are encouraged to save space for one or two new crew, and new skippers are welcome to join in for the chalk talk and decide, based on the conditions, if they want to race or just go for a fun sail.
The first chalk talk will focus on "The Racing Landscape". Future talks will include: "Starts"; "Puffs, Lulls, & Shifts"; "Tactics 101"; & "Boat handling 201".
The DSC hopes you will join us in making this frostbiting season a warm and enjoyable experience for all sailors and community members. If you are a member of the DSC, please sign up in the appropriate category online so we have record of your intention and attendance. If you are a guest, please register as a guest and contact Stuart at stuart@downtownsailing.org to learn more or get on a boat.
Please note that frostbiting will not occur if the winds exceed 20 kt., if the combined wind+water temps are below 80F, or if there is snow/ice on the boats/docks/water.
Also, if you are not a DSC skipper but are serving as the skipper of the boat (college skipper, BCSC or BCYA guest, summer employee), please fill out the appropriate forms and either email them to Stuart or bring them with you on the day of the event. The forms will be sent to you in the confirmation email. All first-time sailors need to complete a release of liability before sailing with us.
