Our US SAILING Basic Keelboat (BK) Certification course consists of five+ days of sailing instruction. US Sailing only requires three days; we go beyond. Designed for you to progress from a beginner to a winner, BK course features the top quality instructors, boats, and location for developing your skills. A US SAILING Keelboat Instructor and up to two students are on the water in one of our Sonars. Sonars are 23-foot keelboats that are safe, comfortable, and fun. We go beyond US Sailing's minimum standards with more time and we go beyond other schools' standards by giving students a workbook specifically developed and tested through years of instruction and revision. Students who successfully complete the written and practical on-the-water skills test for this course will have "demonstrated the ability to responsibly skipper and crew a simple daysailing keelboat in familiar waters in light to moderate wind and sea conditions…[and] will be able to skipper a tiller-steered keelboat up to 27 feet in length." Prerequisites: None required, but we highly recommend spending some time on boats before committing to the full US Sailing Certification Course. For advanced sailors, you may find the Beyond Intro Course more appealing.
