The aim of the after-school program is to provide educational opportunities outside of the traditional school setting through a sailing focused program. We are looking for dedicated and consistent volunteers to help with our After-School STEM program with Wolfe Street Academy. Our ideal volunteer enjoys working with young kids in a fun and educational setting.

Schedule: The after school program runs Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30PM-6PM (or 5:30 PM on non-sailing days.) Ideally volunteers will be able to commit to a regular schedule, either weekly or monthly, as our students benefit from having consistent and reliable adult role models. One off volunteers are also needed occasionally.

Volunteer Roles: We need three types of volunteers for the program, on the water Skipper and Crew Instructors and on-site classroom help.

DSC Skippers and Crew: Volunteers are expected to help rig the boats at 3:30PM and sail them over to Fells Point. The Classroom staff will walk the children down to the docks to load onto the boats around 4:15 PM until 5:30PM, when the on-site staff and volunteers will walk them back to the classroom. Instructors will help teach the students about very basic sailing concepts such as Wind Direction, Buoyancy etc. Instruction materials will be provided and often paid staff will lead the instruction with volunteers assisting in facilitating the day’s activity. ( OPEN ONLY TO TRAINED OR APPROVED DSC VOLUNTEERS )
