Why Fundraise for YGR?

The Ya Gotta Regatta (YGR) is a community-driven fundraiser. It takes the whole community.

Here is what WE have accomplished for OUR community in 2021:

  • 20 Summer Camp Scholarships, valued at >$8,000
  • 32 Siebel Sailors youth - 3 seasons, 7 weeks, no cost access & inclusion sailing program
  • 12 Access-ability Saturdays - no-cost sailing serving people with disabilities
  • 3 weeks of summer sailing with Wolfe Street Academy - 2nd - 5th graders, 40 kids in total
  • 7 workforce development stipends for Baltimore teens through the CIT program; 11 CITs total
  • half of our summer sailing staff are people of color
  • more than half of our summer sailing staff learned to sail through the CIT program
  • 9 of 10 of our sailing instructors, youth and adult, are home grown
  • twice/month "Women on the Water" sails - sailing with women by women, led by women volunteers

As of August, 2021, we have 38 40 women skippers. Six of them are junior skippers (out of 11 total) and 13 of them are new skippers in the past two years (10 in 2021). One quarter of our TNR skippers and more than 1/3 of all of our racers are women, with three of the top five teams helmed by women skippers. And for the first time ever, we have five women in our Cruising Skipper Development program. Though we are not satisfied with these results, we have taken the first steps to becoming gender balanced in our membership.

The first wave of Siebel Sailors and coaches. Of the original 12, 11 continue to sail with us: in camp, as CITs, and as Siebel Sailors.

Jaz, James, and De'Corer are summer camp counselors. This year, a core group of staff has stuck around to enjoy racing on Thursday evenings in the Sonar Class.

Three of our members enjoy a WoW Saturday event earlier this season. These three women are active in numerous programs, including the TNR racing program, the Cruising Program, the Adaptive Sailing Program, and as volunteers for the member sails.
